The Plan

The goal of the project is to make an automated watering system for a garden that is robust but simple to use. It should work for a wide array of plants and be reasonably configurable. The project will integrate software and hardware through a microcontroller. The microcontroller will take in input, such as moisture level, and control outputs, such as a valve which releases water. The project is very similar to a pre-existing project called MudPi, which claims to support a range of sensors and will log data to storage. However, this product is not yet available. This project provides the opportunity to properly learn to use microcontrollers and make basic circuits with a breadboard. Version control will also have to be practiced and utilized as a team in order to coordinate software production. Overall, the intent of the project is to have a well documented process of the development of a configurable automatic garden.
